Thank you for supporting us and for being part of a community that shows up for families during difficult times. Last month, we shared Violet’s Story. This month, we are sharing three recent Family Promise stories and more about our 30 year celebration.
Every family arrives at Family Promise with a different story. Some need a safe place to stay tonight. Some are days away from eviction. Others need employment, resources, and support to rebuild their independence.This month, we want to introduce you to three families whose journeys demonstrate three different ways Family Promise of Las Vegas helps families move from crisis toward stability. Last year alone, our team recorded 13,657 services, and 89% of families in our housing programs transitioned into stable, independent housing.
The Jensen Family: A Safe Place to Begin Again
The Jensen family—a mother, father, and their four young children came to Family Promise with nowhere to go. Facing homelessness and uncertainty about what would happen next, their most immediate need was simple: a safe place for their family to stay together.
Our team helped the family obtain important documents needed to access services and worked to secure emergency shelter while longer-term solutions could be explored. With those immediate needs addressed, the Jensens could begin focusing on the next steps toward stability rather than worrying about where their children would sleep that night.
Sometimes the first step toward a new beginning is simply having a safe place to land.
Did You Know? Last year, Family Promise served 206 families—643 individuals— in our emergency shelter program providing more than 17,000 nights of shelter for families experiencing a crises.
Eviction Prevented: A Family Stays Home
Single mom of three: For one single mother of three, a reduction in work hours quickly became a housing crisis. Her income dropped, she fell behind on rent, and soon she was facing the possibility of eviction. Family Promise stepped in with assistance covering two months of base rent, bringing her rental balance current and preventing the eviction from moving forward. That assistance did more than pay a bill—it gave her family time.
Soon afterward, her regular work schedule was restored and her income stabilized. Instead of entering homelessness and having to rebuild from the ground up, this mother and her three children were able to remain safely in their home while she got back on her feet.
Did You Know? Last year, Family Promise provided Prevention and Stabilization Services to 105 families—323 individuals—who were at risk of losing their housing. Preventing homelessness before it happens is one of the most effective ways we can help families maintain stability.
From Living in a Car to a Home of Their Own: A single mother of two came to Family Promise after losing her income, falling behind on rent, and eventually having to give up her apartment. With nowhere else to go, she and her two sons began living in their car.
The uncertainty created tremendous stress, especially as her oldest son prepared to graduate from high school. When the family entered Family Promise’s temporary housing program, she described feeling relieved, grateful, and hopeful. On that very same day, the family received another piece of incredible news: her son had earned a scholarship to attend UNLV. While receiving support from Family Promise, this mother remained focused on rebuilding. She actively searched for employment while receiving workers’ compensation and eventually secured a job. With income coming in and support from the Family Promise team, she was ready to begin searching for permanent housing. Within 72 hours, she was approved for an apartment. Family Promise helped with the move-in costs, and today she and her children are safely and permanently housed. Her story demonstrates why employment and housing services work so closely together. A job creates income, but families may still need help overcoming the final barriers between homelessness and a home of their own.
Did You Know? Last year, Family Promise’s employment services helped 94 individuals find jobs. Workforce support—including resumes, mock interviews, certifications, job connections, transportation, and other employment resources—is an important part of helping families achieve sustainable housing and long-term independence.
We Have a Winner!
We are thrilled to share that Family Promise of Las Vegas was selected as the Q3 grant recipient of 100 Women Who Care Southern Nevada!
Executive Director Marisa Cervantes had five minutes to share the Family Promise story alongside two other nonprofits. After hearing all three presentations, members voted—and Family Promise received the most votes!
The collective gift has already reached $5,100 and is still growing. You can give towards the total below. Celebrating Our New Bright Horizons Bright Space
Last month, Family Promise of Las Vegas joined representatives from Bright Horizons to celebrate the ribbon cutting of our new Bright Space, “Travel to the Knowledge Moon,” at the Credit One Bank Family Navigation Center. Designed with children in mind, the space provides a colorful, highly sensory, welcoming environment where children can play, learn, explore, and simply be kids while their families work toward housing stability and independence.
We are incredibly grateful to the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children and everyone who helped bring this project to life. It is another meaningful enhancement to our Family Navigation Center, which has already received two major awards recognizing its design and impact on the community.
FNC Winning More Awards!
The Credit One Bank Family Navigation Center, operated by Family Promise of Las Vegas, has received the 2026 NAIOP Southern Nevada Merit Award in the Special Use category. This is the center’s second major recognition. Earlier this year, it received the Urban Land Institute Placemaking Award for Excellence in the Catalytic Place category. Thank you to Eagle One Construction, Grand Canyon Development, Sparkflight Studios, LV Restoration and our other partners that worked so hard on this project!
Our 30 Year Anniversary Family Fun Festival Is Almost Here!
We are getting excited for the Family Promise of Las Vegas 30 Year Anniversary Family Fun Festival on Wednesday, September 30! This free, family-centered celebration is growing bigger by the moment! We are thrilled to welcome twenty incredible organizations that will be participating in the festival, including Hill and Dale Preschool, Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada, Joyful Journeys, Las Vegas Natural History Museum, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Fire Department, UnitedHealthcare, The Eye Doc, Credit One Bank, Dads Inc., GiGi’s Playhouse, Spread the Word Nevada, Nevada PEP, UNLV, The Library District, Nevada Health Centers, Summerlin Rotary Club, and, of course, the Family Promise of Las Vegas team!

Family Promise of Las Vegas is celebrating 30 years. FPLV became a registered nonprofit on October 1, 1996 — our birthday. We are celebrating on the eve of that birthday with our 30 Year Anniversary Family Fun Festival on Wednesday, September 30. Over the last 30 years of we have served tens of thousands of families. We could not have done that without the support of friends, churches, businesses, volunteers, donors, and community partners who believed families should not have to face homelessness alone.
As we get ready to celebrate, here are three simple ways you can help.
1. Schedule a Tour and Bring a Prize
In the days leading up to our anniversary, we are scheduling brief tours of the Family Navigation Center. Even if you have been here before you can check out our new Bright Space and experience the latest.Tour dates are available on: September 22, 23, 24, 25, 28, 29, and October 1. Email info@fplv.org to set up a tour. When you come, if you want, you can also help support the Family Fun Festival by bringing a raffle prize, carnival prize, or giveaway item.
